Anodised aluminium, what are the benefits?
Aluminium is a booming material in the construction industry that has gained in strength from the anodising process.
The same material is naturally coated with an oxide layer to protect it from external agents. Anodising basically creates a thicker artificial oxide layer, obtaining a product with greater protection against mechanical wear and corrosion.
The oxidation process by means of electrolysis makes the layer part of the aluminium, not an applied one.
In addition to the protection it provides against corrosion and abrasion, the anodising process is a resource also used to add colour to the anodised aluminium part. The integrated layer is called alumina and, depending on its thickness, it will have higher or lower resistance to atmospheric agents. Its main benefit, in addition to those already mentioned, is its low maintenance cost, a major factor for both companies and users.
Where to use anodised aluminium
Anodised aluminium is becoming a major player in many of the sector’s architectural projects thanks to its versatility. The wide variety of applications makes this material a commonly used resource. This type of processed aluminium is found in windows or roofing systems that connect the exterior to the interior.
An interesting fact is that it is also used in household appliances and in the nautical, aeronautical and aerospace industry.
As mentioned earlier, it is a low-maintenance material. Anodised aluminium can be cleaned using soapy water on indoor surfaces or neutral synthetic products on outdoor surfaces.
On the other hand, as far as colour is concerned, this is possible by means of two processes: powder coating and liquid paint. The first is fixed in the form of dry powder, using heat to form a kind of skin, as well as achieving a wide range of colours and glosses. On the other hand, liquid paint is more usual in laminated sandwiched products (layer, polymer, layer) normally used in roofs, facades or corporate identity because of its strength and flexibility.
Therefore, do not hesitate to request the technical data sheet of the necessary material and make sure that the aluminium has undergone the anodising process. Your project and the user will thank you for having a durable and visually appealing product.
